CORDA - the Latin for hearts - is the short name of The Coronary Artery Disease Research Association, a charity funding specialist research into the prevention of premature death and disability resulting from heart and arterial disease by early, non-invasive diagnosis and treatment. This single group of conditions accounts for nearly half the deaths in the UK.
Diagnosed and treated before it does permanent harm, however, it may be possible to prevent disaster.
The exciting news is that, using a unique mobile magnetic resonance scanner, CORDA researchers may have identified the best hope yet for the harmless, mass-screening test the charity seeks.
